The Leinster Chess Union’s Christmas Blitz event took place on Wednesday 21 st December 2022 in the Ierne Sports and Social Club, home of the Elm Mount Chess Club. This was the first time the event has been held since 2019 owing to Covid 19 public health related restrictions in 2020 and 2021.
There was a total of 53 entrants who were divided into 6 all play all sections by rating and the top three players in each section were awarded prizes. The number of entries represented a very welcome increase on the 42 entrants in 2019 when the event was last held. Another encouraging feature of the tournament was the large number of junior players who entered gaining very useful competitive experience in the process as well as being among the prizes.
The title of Leinster Chess Union Christmas Blitz Champion was awarded to the winner of the highest rated section, Jacob Flynn from the Malahide Chess Club. The Winners of each Section A to F respectively were as follows:
