The Leinster Chess Union's Annual Christmas Blitz took place on Wednesday 19th December 2012 in the Ierne Sports and Social Club, home of the Elm Mount Chess Club. There were 29 competitors who played in three separate groups based on rating. The top section was won by Yuri Firstov of the Phibsborough Chess Club on a score of 7/8. Yuri is therefore the LCU's Blitz Champion for 2012. The runner up in the group on a score of 5.5/8 was Killian Delaney of the Rathmines Chess Club with Ciaran Quinn of Elm Mount winning a grading prize.
In the other two sections, Melvin King of Malahide Chess Club and Terry Creighton of Elm Mount finished as joint winners while grading prizes were won by Cormac Roche (also Malahide) and Luke Scott of Blanchardstown. The third section was won by Shahram Nicrow of Rathmines with a score of 8/9 with Shay Scott of Malahide finishing as runner up. Robert McLoughlin won the grading prize.
