Some good junior news from Drogheda chess club was sent to me from Frank Pentony recently. One of their promising juniors Dayna Ferguson played in the 38th Bulgarian open and had a very good tournament. Dayna is 11 years old and her Bulgarian Grandfather taught her how to play so we shall watch her career with great interest.
The following report is from Frank Pentony of Drogheda Chess Club:
Our youngest member, 11 year old Dayna Ferguson, has returned from a successful trip to Bulgaria. She took part in the 38th Bulgarian Open – The Georgi Tringov Memorial 2016 and came home with a very credible 3.5 points out of 9.
Dayna has an International Rating of 1322 and was credited with an overall performance rating of 1563. (What will she be when she’s 20 years of age?) She was able to achieve this with 2 wins and excellent draws against opponents with ratings of 1675, 1717 and 2020. All her losses were against higher rated contestants and the average rating of all her opponents was 1724. This should do her own rating no harm and she may expect to gain a boost there shortly. Dayna will be playing in the Irish Junior Championships in April as well as helping the O’Hanlon team in the less heady heights of the Leinster League for the rest of the year.
