2014 Irish Veteran’s Championship
9-22
22-09-2014

The Irish Veteran’s championship took place in the Boyne Valley Hotel Drogheda on the week-end 19th–21st September. After five rounds the top two seeds Corkman Pat Twomey (CCYMS) and Ulsterman John Nicholson (Lagan) emerged as joint winners on 4½ points. The tournament was controlled as usual by Andrew Thompson of the Drogheda chess club. After three rounds both Twomey and Nicholson were on full points but their individual encounter in the fourth round failed to separate them and when both players won their final games against Pascal O’Shea and John Lacy respectively then the title and prize money was shared. John Lacy of the Gorey chess club came third on 2½ points. The Irish Veteran’s chess championship has been running since 1999 and Úna O Boyle has compiled a brief history of the event.
