Kenny McIntyre of Portmarnock Chess Club has won the 1200-1600 section of the ICU Grand Prix after wins in Gonzaga and Galway and a second place in the City of Dublin. He cannot be caught by any other competitor in the last Grand Prix event of the season but there is still keen competition for the subsequent places as only seven points separate the next six players. In the 1600-2000 section Paul Kiely from Waterford is leading at present, followed by David Path from Cork. The final event for these sections is the Belfast Summerfest tournament in June, while the last event in the over 2000 Grand Prix is the Irish Open, which will be played in Dublin in July. Leading that event at the moment is Alexander Baburin, followed by Rashid Ziatdinov.
