Glorney and Faber Cups 2007
1-28
28-01-2007

Ireland is hosting the annual Glorney and Faber Cups in 2007. The tournaments, which have been in existence for around 50 years, are open to junior international players under the age of 18. They will take place from 24th to 26th July 2007 in Dublin City University. Invitations to compete have been issued to five other nations, England, Scotland, Wales, Belgium and the Czech Republic. The annual "Tri-nations" tournament for teams of players under the ages of 12 and 14 from Ireland, Scotland and Wales will take place at the same time and venue. However, the ICU have also invited the Czech, Belgian and English Chess Federations to enter teams of players under 12 and under 14 years of age to expand the traditional "tri-nations" event into a six nations championship. This will have the benefit of allowing our younger international players to gain more experience of international competition.

As a result, if each nation enters a full complement of teams, the tournaments will involve 120 young competitors, making these events the largest junior international events hosted in Ireland.
