Brian Thorpe
Brian Thorpe (r) receiving a presentation, from Michael Crowe, during the 2009 Irish Junior Chess Championships in Kilkenny, for his many years of service to junior chess.

Brian Thorpe has been organising Junior chess for 50 years. To mark this achievement and Brian's retirement from Chess organising, the Irish Chess Union made a special presentation to Brian at the Irish Junior Chess Championships that were recently held in Kilkenny. ICU treasurer Michael Crowe made the presentation. Brian started out organising Junior chess in Methodist College Belfast in 1959. He has been a long standing member of the ICU junior committee and in recent years has been organising the Irish Junior Inter-Provincials and also the All Ireland Colleges Championship. We wish Brian a long and happy retirement. Bigger picture.
