FIDE regularly remind us that many Irish players registered with them have no date of birth by displaying a message in bold and red whenever we log into the FIDE Rating Server. This has lead us in the past to provide a Missing DOBs page and launch appeals for help in this news list (2008, 2009). The response to these efforts has been a tad disappointing, though we'd like to thank once again the few people who did make the effort.
DOBs are useful to the ICU as well as FIDE, not just for the ratings K-factors of young players, but also for identifying players with similar names so your ratings don't get mixed up.
Recently FIDE have taken the unusual step of writing to us and specifically requesting that we try to decrease the number players with no recorded DOB. So we are now making another appeal.
To attract your attention and hopefully get a better response than usual, below is a reminder of what we're after. If you are on the Missing DOBs list please email rating officer your name, DOB (preferably yyyy-mm-dd format to avoid any ambiguity), ICU number and club (if you're in one).
