GM Nigel Short Simul 22 February Dublin
1-27
27-01-2011

As has already been reported on this site, Grandmaster Nigel Short will be playing in Bunratty. Before he gets there, he will be giving a lecture and simultaneous display over 30 boards at 19:00 on Tuesday 22 February in Wynn's Hotel, O'Connell Street, Dublin.

Those of you, even older than me, may remember when he played in Dundrum Chess Congress in 1976. He was also here in 1983 or 1984 when he gave a simul in Trinity College. Since then, he has won many tournaments and matches, including beating Anatoly Karpov to win the right to play a world championship match against Kasparov in 1993. He has represented England in every olympiad since 1984. In recent years he has added coaching and journalism to his bow.

His lecture promises not only to improve how you play chess, but will also increase your vocabulary, as Nigel is well known for using words nobody else understands. Its 25€ to play in the simul and 10€ to only come to the lecture. So, don't be a dunderhead, contact our treasurer, Shane Lee, either by email: or by phone: 085-171-5594. Strictly on a first come, first served basis.
