The World Youth Chess Championships in the United Arab Emirates have started, and continue until 29 December. Representing Ireland are John Hughes (under 18), Kevin Singpurwala (under 14) and Diana Mirza (under 14 girls). The Irish squad has got off to an excellent start: after two rounds, Diana has 2 points and John 1½, both getting results against much stronger opposition in round 2.
