The Leinster Chess championships 2011 took place in the Teacher’s Club in Dublin's city centre over the Easter weekend 22–24th April. 65 players took part in the tournament competing in 4 different sections.

The Master’s Section, with 12 competitors, was particularly hard fought with the two top seeds, Colm Daly FM and David Fitzsimons losing games in the early rounds. Eventually no less than 4 players tied for first place on a score of 4/6 - John Joyce of Bray/Greystones, Kilkenny Chess Club's Zaidan Zulkipli, Gonzaga’s Gordon Freeman and Elm Mount's David Fitzsimons. The Leinster Champion for 2011 is John Joyce (pictured above right) on tie-break. Dunlaoghaire's Tony Fox won a grading prize in the section.

In the Majors Section, Rory Delaney (pictured above left) of Dublin University won outright with an unbeaten score of 5/6 followed by 4 players on 4 points in 2nd–5th place. Colm Fitzpatrick of Phibsborough and Peter Lynch of Rathmines finished 2nd and 3rd respectively on tie break, with Peter also picking up a grading prize. There were 14 players in the section.

The Challengers Section had 18 competitors and was won outright by Elm Mount's William Ffrench (pictured right) on an unbeaten score of 5/6. Mark Finnigan of Bray/Greystones and Paddy Divilly of Longford chess Club finished 2nd and 3rd respectively, both on a score of 4½/6. The grading prize was won by Ronan Murphy of Elm Mount chess club.

Zaran Butt winner of the Juniors Section, Leinster Championships

The Juniors Section had 21 competitors and was won outright by newcomer Zaran Butt (pictured left) with the highest score of the weekend 5½/6. Seamus Flynn of Cavan Chess Club was runner up on 4½/6 while five players finished 3rd-7th on a score of 4/6. Martin Desmond of Portmarnock finished 3rd on tie break with Padraig Hughes (Kilkenny) and Nikhil George Rajesh (Elm Mount) winning the grading prizes.
