The 2016 Leinster Junior Chess Championships

The 2016 Leinster Junior Chess Championships took place in the Esplanade Hotel, Bray, Co. Wicklow from January 1st to 4th. The event is hosted annually by the Leinster Schools Chess Association with current records dating back to 1942. In total 120 players contested 6 sections. U10, U11, U12, U14, U16, U19.

Deputy Anne Ferris TD made the ceremonial opening move in the Leinster Under 10s. Deputy Ferris stated: “It’s wonderful to see to so many young people getting involved in positive activities. It was also a great honour to have been invited to make the ceremonial opening move. I wish everyone the best of continued success.”

All sections saw new Leinster champions crowned with the exception of the U19s where Conor O'Donnell successfully defended his title.
