Description

Knights of Éanna Chess Club

Knights of Éanna Chess Club is one of Ireland’s largest and most active chess clubs, with over 100 members of all ages and playing strengths.

Based in Dublin 16, the club welcomes everyone from complete beginners and returning players to experienced competitive players.

Originally established at Coláiste Éanna, the club opened to the wider community in 2015 and merged with the historic Rathmines Chess Club in 2022. Today, it offers a friendly, active environment for anyone interested in playing chess regularly, improving their game or taking part in leagues and competitions.

What the club offers:

  1. Junior chess: A thriving junior section, with opportunities for children to learn, play regularly, make friends and progress into competitive chess.
  2. Chess coaching: Structured Chess Steps coaching for children, alongside opportunities for players to develop their skills.
  3. Adult and social chess: Regular club nights where adults of all ages can enjoy casual games, meet other players and return to chess after a break.
  4. Competitive chess: Teams competing across multiple divisions of the Leinster Chess Leagues, catering for a wide range of playing strengths.
  5. Tournaments and events: The club organises the annual Éanna Classic, a FIDE-rated weekend tournament, along with club championships, rapid tournaments and other events.
  6. A strong community: An established and growing membership, with particularly good participation among juniors and women and girls.

Knights of Éanna won its first Armstrong Cup title in 2024/25, alongside the Branagan Cup and BEA Cup, reflecting the club's continued development at competitive level. Its activities extend well beyond league chess, with a strong emphasis on making chess accessible and enjoyable for players at every stage.

New members are always welcome. Whether you're a parent looking for a chess club for your child, an adult interested in taking up chess, or an experienced player looking for regular games and competition, Knights of Éanna offers plenty of opportunities to get involved.
