Observations on Rating Officer's Job
A couple of items have come up this year which has made my job a bit more difficult. Firstly, I have found it increasingly difficult to get tournament controllers to send me results on time (they should be the next few days after a tournament has finished). This has meant that I have had to go and chase them, which is not my job. The amount of time that is wasted chasing for results is very frustrating. Secondly, FIDE have changed the way they require results to be submitted to them something I only realised recently by chance when looking at the July FIDE list and noticing the Leinster Masters had not been rated yet. I have been able to get the Leinster Masters and Irish Open into the correct format for FIDE to include in their next rating list but the sheer enormity of the results from the LCU Armstrong league has meant that I have not had the time to be able to put them into the required format.
Finally, I am standing down as Rating Officer and I would like to thank all those who have helped me out over the last two years especially Vincent Bissett. Mark Orr will be taking up the role from next season and I would like to wish him the best of luck.
