I became secretary of the ICU at the end of February 2007. As I do not live in Ireland, I basically carried out only half of the secretarys role. This meant being the point of contact for all email correspondence.
Basically this consisted of the following:
- Updating ICU contact details with FIDE and ECU.
- Receiving emails re upcoming tournaments from FIDE and ECU and keeping the rest of the ICU executive up to date on this.
- Keeping treasurer informed of cost of entry for tournaments (eg European Club Cup).
- Taking part in various ICU discussions by email.
- Setting agenda and being point of contact for motions for each ICU Meeting.
I do think that a secretary who lives in Ireland and is able to attend and minute the ICU monthly meetings will do a more effective job for next year.
