California-Dublin Girls Chess Match
2-20
20-02-2008

Elizabeth Shaughnessy, former Irish Women's Champion, on behalf of the Berkeley Chess School in Berkeley California and Gearóidín Uí Laighléis, ICU Women's officer, would like to invite a team of Irish girls, kindergarten through 8th grade (of any chess strength), to a cultural exchange/chess match in Berkeley and in Dublin.

As was the format for the last two exchanges with Irish boys, the students and their parents would be hosted in the homes of their Irish/Californian counterparts. In the past the US kids have travelled to Ireland first and the Irish have returned to California the following year, but there is no reason why this could not be the reverse. The visits have lasted 10 days, including two travelling days. There have been two matches, one as white and one as black. The rest of the time has been spent sightseeing and at chess camp.

The costs of the trip is borne by the families. The summer would be the preferred time, but any school vacation time might work. Please let know if you are interested.
