Killane Shield 2008
5-23
23-05-2008

The winners of the this year's Killane Shield are St Benildus A, who beat Dunshaughlin 4½-½ in the final last Saturday. The final score doesn't reflect how close most of the games were. The Killane Shield is a knockout competition for teams comprised of players who've competed in divisions 3-6 of the Leinster leagues. Created a few years ago to rekindle interest in the cup for players outside the elite, it is named in honour of Jack Killane, who has given a great deal of his time to Irish chess. The competition for teams from the top two divisions, the Branagan Cup, is at the final stage, with Gonzaga and Phibsboro due to play each other shortly.
