The Irish Chess Union

The European (Individual) Senior Chess Championship will take place from 8th to 22nd March in Oporto, Portugal. There are four separate tournaments: Open over 50, open over 65, women over 50, and women over 65. The deadline for registration is 10 February, and you have to register through the ICU. If you are interested in playing, please contact the ICU on or before 3 February. The ICU will pay the entry fee for one entrant. Further information can be found on the tournament’s website.

This will be closely followed by the European Senior Team Championship, in Sibenik (Croatia) from 31 March to 10 April. Teams consist of four players, with a squad of five permitted. Entrants have to be over 50, but no more than three can be under 65. There is no separate women’s tournament. Further information can be found here.
