The New Rating System
The September list is the first list to be published with the new rating system. This new system calculates ratings the same way as before, publishes rating lists 3 times a year (again, as before) but provides the following new features:
- Has it's own dedicated website: ratings.icu.ie
- Provides a complete breakdown of how each member's rating is calculated
- Rates each tournament as soon its report is received (without waiting for the next rating list publication)
- Includes facilities for tournament controllers to load and edit rating reports
- Allows the rating officer to correct errors, rerate tournaments and republish rating lists

FIDE Rated Tournaments
IMPORTANT: FIDE have recently started to apply their rule about registering tournaments at least one month prior to the start date more strictly. Their warning to us was as follows: "We are in receipt of your competitions which are registered late. This is a violation of the rating regulations. For any future infringement, the QC shall impose financial penalties and/or decide not to rate the competitions."
Therefore, organisers who wish their tournaments to be FIDE rated should notify the ICU rating officer at least 5 weeks prior to the start date. More details.
In addition to the tournaments listed in the previous report, the following tournaments were also submitted to FIDE for rating: Branagan Cup, Irish Championships, Leinster League Div 3, Lost Knights 2012, National Club Championships, Ulster Championships.
On the new site it's possible to search for FIDE-rated tournaments by choosing Rated under the FIDE menu on the search page. When displayed, these tournaments have links to their FIDE pages.
