The successful candidate for the position of team captain must have a keen interest in and experience of international chess, good communication skills, and familiarity with the rules of chess and Olympiad tournament rules. The captain will not pick the squad, but will pick the team for individual matches; he/she must therefore have knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of the leading Irish chess players, and must be able to work constructively with these players and bring out the best in them. He/she must be able to travel to Norway for the duration of the Olympiad.
The Olympiad organizers provide free board and lodging for the captain for the duration of the tournament, and the ICU will pay a contribution towards the captains travel expenses.
